HSBC WeChat

wechat post

One of my main focuses within the team is to create WeChat content for HSBC. The fun challenge in creating these WeChat posts is that the copy direction and narrative come first and as the design side of the team, I have to come up with interesting directions and visuals to represent the content of the copy.

In this particular example, HSBC had recently released a campaign starring Charmaine Sheh which positioned her as the 理財女王, or the queen of financial management, and they wanted to ride on that content to release posts on WeChat. However, due to restrictions on celebrity assets, I had to find a way around illustrating the content in the post without using celebrity assets.

Concept

Upon receiving the copy and reading through the content, the concept of chess popped into my head. The Queen's chess piece very aptly represents Charmaine Sheh's character as the Queen of Finance while the game of chess also very accurately communicates and syncs with the content direction of the post.

Interactive Sections

Interactions are unique to the WeChat world. The platform allows for many interactive functions such as "tap to expand" or "scroll to see more", which allows for more creativity in designing engaging content. This means that we often have to design mini sections that resemble app buttons as shown in this section.
